Tulum is a picturesque town located on the Caribbean coastline of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. It’s not only known for its beautiful beaches and and well preserved ancient mayan ruins but also for its amazing food scene. I wrote a 2022 Guide for the best restaurants in Tulum and I wanted to update it for 2023.
I lived in Tulum for over half a year and I tried a lot of their restaurants so keep on reading for an updated version of the best restaurants in Tulum.
1. La Negra Tomasa, the best restaurant in Tulum
This is easily one of my favorite restaurants in Tulum. With it’s laid back vibes and overall great food its one of the best food spots in town, no matter if you want to quickly grab lunch or enjoy a fun night out with friends. They have a bar and make great cocktails and they often have live music which makes it the perfect spot to grab some drinks with friends. Their food is delicious ranging from ceviche to tuna tacos. I feel like no matter what you order here you can’t go wrong which makes la negra tomasa a popular spot among tourists and locals alike.
2. Crazy fish
This restaurant is on the Main Street in Tulum town. You can’t miss it since it has bright turquoise blue walls. As the name suggests they serve everything fish and let me tell you this is one of my favorite places to get some shrimp tacos. They’re relatively cheap compared to other restaurants and their quality of food is amazing. The owners are also really friendly and overall its just an amazing restaurant. I seriously could come here everyday to eat tacos.
3. Los Aguachiles
Los Aguachiles is another seafood restaurant and has some of the best shrimp and fish tacos in town. It’s a little bit of a walk or drive since its almost all the way at the end of Tulum Centro, but it´s absolutely worth a visit if you´re into seafood.
4. Jerks chicken
This place opened not too long ago and it´s also located on the Main Street in Tulum town. Here you can get Jamaican chicken which is absolutely delicious. The owner and the people that work there are really friendly and overall its all good vibes there. The food is delicious and I feel like you can’t get that kind of food anywhere else in Tulum. They also just opened a location in Playa del Carmen if you’re staying there and want to try them.
5. Burrito Amor
Burrito Amor is a favorite among tourist and for a good reason. They offer amazing burritos and their sauces make them extra good. In my opinion, they are a little overpriced but because they offer delicious food I feel like its worth it coming here. They offer a variety of bowls and burritos ranging from grilled ones to vegetarian and vegan ones. They also offer a variety of healthy drinks and smoothies which makes them even better.
6. La Pizzine, the best restaurant in Tulum
This is also easily one of my favorite restaurants and they have 2 locations, one in La Veleta and one in the town center. Besides their amazing food they have the coolest looking interior that’s absolutely unique and very instagram worthy. They offer amazing pizzas and salads and even though their menu is kinda weird you can’t really go wrong with anything you order here.
7. The Taco Trucks on Calle Satellite Norte
On this street you will find a variety of food trucks offering typical Mexican street food. This is by far the cheapest option to grab a bite but it’s still one of the best options in my opinion cause the food is really good. There is one food truck that is really famous which is called Mannys, and my personal favorite food truck is right next to the Scotia bank. I don’t known their name but they offer fish and shrimp tacos. If you like seafood this truck is a must try!
8. Akuma Sushi, the best restaurant in Tulum
Akuma is where you can get by far the best sushi in Tulum. Their interior is minimal but luxurious and they have a small courtyard to sit outside. The staff is very friendly and their sushi is probably one of the best I’ve ever had. If you’re staying in Tulum and you’re in the mood for sushi definitely check them out. They’re one of the best restaurants in Tulum. They also have over 500+ reviews in Google and a 4.9 average rating. If you’re in Tulum and you like sushi you definitely have to check them out.
There you have 8 of some of the best restaurants in Tulum. Obviously taste is very different but most of these restaurants are loved by locals and tourists alike making them a great choice to grab something to eat.
